Why isn't the government bailing the people out? 2008/11/20 01:48
I'm really getting upset with all the bailouts and talk of bailouts the government is doing for big business and are justifying it because of our current economy. Is not our Government already in debt itself? The question I pose here is why should the government bail out big banks and car companies at the expense of the tax payers? Why should the government use the tax money collected from "working" class America to bail out companies who continue to make things and do things the American public doesn't want anyway?

Let's take a look at the banking and financial institutions. I own my own business and have used one bank since I started, but over the years before my business, I have used several banks in my life and have had problems with all them. One problem I seem to have with every bank is trying to cash a check. Whether banks want to admit it or not, they are no longer in the check cashing business for the consumers and customers. My current bank, Wachovia, will not let me cash a check if my company name is on it even though I am the Owner, CEO and President of my company. Now if my personal name is on it they have no problem. Another problem I get is that if I deposit checks after 2:00pm on Friday, I have to wait until Tuesday before I can even touch the money. So if a customer writes me a check with my company name on it and it's after 2:00pm on Friday, and I need that money for the weekend, I'm screwed! Now, a few years ago there were some financial laws that were passed by our government that when you write a check say for a "BIG" business like Walmart, the bank automatically has the right now to take out that money instantly as soon as your cashier runs it through at check out. You see now how this law was created for BIG Business and the financial institutions and not for the working man and small businesses.

Then we have the car companies; The big Three as they are being referred to. They are GM, Ford and Dodge/Chrysler. How many years has the American public had to deal with crooked car salesmen, overinflated car prices and bad quality. Some of this I have to say is due to greedy blue collar workers wanting outrageous wages and benefits and the Unions that support them. I'm not saying all Unions are bad and God knows we need them here in the south. My point is why should a steel worker in a car plant in Detroit who is performing unskilled or minimally skilled labor receive $50 to $75 an hour? What they don't realize or care about is that the car companies are going to pass it on to the consumer and that by raising wages the inflation rate in certain areas goes up. That's just like when the minimum wage goes up. When the last minimum wage hike goes into effect in the summer of 2009, who do you think will be paying $9.00 - $10.00 at McDonalds for a combo meal? It sure won't be McDonalds eating the cost of having to pay the workers more. It'll be the consumer!

I say let the companies go under! They've screwed the American public long enough and here the government comes wanting to force the hard working americans of this country to give them money in thier pockets one way or the other. God help us all if the CEO's of these companies had to retire without a $100,000,000 retirement plan!
