The regular meeting of the Cusseta Chamber of Commerce was September 10, 2007. The guest speaker was Coach Mike O’Brien from the Cusseta-Chattahoochee School System. Coach O’Brien is a business education teacher. He has embarked on his teaching career after retiring from the business sector. Coach O’Brien discussed his goals of bringing business leaders to the students in order to present them a variety of opportunities that may await them after graduation. He has invited leaders from AFLAC, and Total Systems to speak to his students.

Mr. Jamie Loyd and Ms. Candace Head from the Department of Labor informed the Chamber of the following recruitment opportunities:

AAFES – will be recruiting food service workers for the new food court at Fort Benning Post Exchange on October 2, 3, and 4 between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

8am - 3pm

Spherion/TSYS – will be recruiting for customer service representatives on September 27, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Alatrade - will be recruiting for their "no kill" poultry processing plant in Phenix City. Exact date of the recruitment has not been determined, but may be in early October. This information will be updated as it becomes available.

These Positive Recruitments will be held at the Georgia Department of Labor, Columbus Career Center, and 700 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, Georgia.

The next meeting of the Chamber will be October 8, 2007 at 7:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served, and this will be an opportunity for members to bring a friend and potential new members for the Chamber. Please come join us and get to know your Chamber. Help your Chamber be the unified voice for business in our community. The role of the Chamber is to advocate the business viewpoint of the community, and to shape public policy, encourage ethical business practices and ensure our community’s future as economically prosperous, educationally competitive and environmentally responsible.

The speaker for the October meeting is Becca Hardin from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Coordinator for the Valley Partnership. Hopefully this will stimulate ideas about what the Chamber and its members can do to generate new businesses in Cusseta.
